Dead & Company wrapped an unforgettable weekend (Aug. 1, Aug. 2, and Aug. 3), headlining three sold-out shows in San Francisco, drawing fans from all 50 states and 16 countries who gathered together in Golden Gate Park to celebrate 60 years of the Grateful Dead’s music.
Each show featured a deeply resonant set from special guest artists – Billy Strings on Night 1, Sturgill “Johnny Blue Skies” Simpson on Night 2, and Night 3 was kicked off by Trey Anastasio Band – who then each performed with Dead & Company (Strings for “Wharf Rat,” Simpson for “Morning Dew,” and Anastasio for the pairing of “Scarlet Begonias” and “Fire on the Mountain”), creating standout moments throughout the weekend.
Additionally, Dead & Company welcomed Grahame Lesh to sit in during each show, performing bass and vocals on several songs closely associated with his father, Phil Lesh, including “St. Stephen” and “Cumberland Blues,” both of which Phil co-wrote. On “Box of Rain,” Grahame played Phil’s iconic bass, famously known as “Big Brown,” and used his dad’s custom Irwin bass for the other songs, carrying that musical lineage forward on the same stage in what was a powerful, full-circle moment for the community.
